What happens if there is a gap between beam rebar and slab rebar without touching?

Usually the beam is considered simply supported in calculations because concrete alone cannot resist bending moments, so there are no binding between beam and columns.

On top of that rebars are not to be “touching” one another but overlap for a prescribed distance that depends on diameter and other considerations.

Depending on diameter…

… but not at any point…

… and depends on the type of structure…

… and it also depends on the country you live in, the code you are using and,

in some places of the structure and type of structure, depending on earthquake and wind intensity.
